Port Hudson Battlefield
Port Hudson State Historic Site, located 20 miles north of Baton Rouge, preserves the site of the 1863 Union siege of the Confederate stronghold along the river bluffs. The state of Louisiana maintains the site, which includes a museum, artillery displays, redoubts, and interpretive plaques. Living history re-enactments are held each year. In 1974, the Port Hudson battlefield was designated a National Historic Landmark. Port Hudson National Cemetery is located about 6 miles to the south.
