Port Royal Island Battlefield

Mostly overrun by residential and commercial development around nearby Beaufort, South Carolina, a small parcel of wooded land on the west side of U.S. Route 21 marks the location of the skirmish on Port Royal Island. The location is near Gray's Hill, the highest point of land on the island, about 6 miles north of downtown Beaufort. A historic marker is nearby. The graves of two British soldiers killed during the battle are in the St. Helena's Church Cemetery in Beaufort.
