Centenary State Historic Site is a former college that interprets the history of education in Louisiana. The college buildings were used as hospitals for Confederate soldiers from 1862 to 1863. A small skirmish was fought on the grounds on August 3, 1863. The Jackson Confederate Cemetery is located on the grounds and contains more than one hundred unmarked graves of soldiers who died during the war.
