Civil War-associated sites within this 1785 outpost for pioneers traveling the Buffalo Trace include: the birthplace and childhood home of Confederate Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston; the Methodist Episcopal Church South; the Paxton Inn, a documented Underground Railroad station; and the site of the slave auction that inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe to write Uncle Tom's Cabin -- now the Harriet Beecher Stowe Slavery to Freedom Museum.
